There are two Nikka malt whisky distilleries: Yoichi and Miyagikyo. Yoichi produces rich, peaty and masculine malt. It is located on the Hokkaido island (Japan), with influence from the sea and cold climate, just like in Scotland. The whisky gets its aroma and body from direct heating distillation, in which the stills are heated with finely powdered natural coal.
A powerful cask-strength 20 Years Old single malt from the Yoichi distillery that previously bested some very high-profile Scottish malts at a blind tasting in 2003 and received 95 points in Jim Murray's Whisky Bible.
